According to Mail Online, Everton are set to compete with La Liga outlet Sevilla for the loan signing of Manchester United prospect Hannibal Mejbri.

The newspaper reported [7 January] on its website that the youngster is set to extend his contract at Old Trafford before leaving on loan, with the Toffees attempting to hold off the current Europa League champions.

The 20-year-old is said to have already agreed to a loan move to Spain, but the Merseyside club has made a late approach to sign the Tunisian international.

Mjebri joined the Red Devils in 2019 for a reported £9.3 million fee from Monaco, but he has only made 12 senior appearances since then.

Hannibal Mejbri delivers no-nonsense Man United career update

Mejbri, who was dubbed “perfect” by Erik ten Hag after Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Burnley in September, will be hoping to gain some valuable game time, having only played 417 minutes this season.
Youngster with potential

When given the chance by ten Hag this season, the Tunisian international has proven himself on the pitch. His season-long loan spell at Birmingham City last season was crucial to his development, and Everton will look to capitalise on this.

If the Toffees are to steal Mejbri from Sevilla, they will need to monitor his behaviour, as he has an incredible 15 yellow cards in 41 appearances at Under 21 level, 11 yellow cards in 41 appearances for Birmingham, and five cautions in 12 Man United appearances.

Despite the fact that he has yet to receive a red card at the senior level, Sean Dyche will have to be wary of his rash challenges and eagerness to get involved. This could be viewed as a positive, as energy on the pitch is normally contagious among teammates.

With Everton aiming to avoid Premier League relegation and Dyche’s recent midfield issues, Mejbri could be an intriguing signing to help the team’s form after a four-game winless streak.Mejbri has also earned 26 international caps for Tunisia since making his debut as an 18-year-old in 2021.
