Everton ‘consider’ move for ex-Man Utd man who ‘agreed’ to join Newcastle United

Everton have been linked with a shock move for Jesse Lingard, a former Manchester United and Nottingham Forest midfielder. Lingard is a free agent after leaving Nottingham Forest at the end of last season.

Sean Dyche’s side are currently fourth-bottom in the Premier League, one point ahead of Luton Town after being defeated by Wolves in their last outing. Lingard, meanwhile, has been without a club since leaving Forest after just one season. He was briefly linked with moves to West Ham and then Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, but neither deal materialised.
Lingard was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United in 2022, and he almost joined the Magpies in the final days of the January transfer window before Manchester United pulled the plug at the last minute. Instead, he moved to the City Ground, but after a season in which he failed to score or assist in the Premier League, he left as a free agent.
According to TalkSport, Everton could give the 31-year-old another chance in the Premier League this month as Dyche looks to strengthen his squad ahead of another survival battle.

Lingard revealed why the move to Tyneside in 2022 fell through in an interview with the Diary of a CEO podcast about his failed move to St James’ Park: “I wanted to go on loan again in January because I wasn’t playing again,” he added. “In January, Newcastle was on the agenda. The deal was completed, but the [Manchester] United squad was insufficient.”
