It was easy to be concerned about Everton’s Premier League status after receiving a 10-point deduction. However, under Sean Dyche, the Toffees have been better than ever and look set to avoid relegation for yet another season if their current form continues. Given how tight things are this time around, those at Goodison Park may even get a boost by moving into mid-table and beyond, making up for their deduction. They would have been 10th and above Chelsea if it hadn’t been for those ten points.
As the January transfer window approaches, the Merseyside club may seek reinforcements to ensure even greater success in the second half of the season. However, they may need to focus their attention first on departures, with one player reportedly heading for the exit door.
Everton transfer rumours
Even with financial constraints, Everton managed to bring in reinforcements during the summer transfer window. Jack Harrison, Ashley Young, and Beto all joined in the hope of giving Dyche a boost, which they did. Arnaut Danjuma, on the other hand, has struggled to make an impact at Goodison Park and may be on his way out.
Lyon are interested in signing Everton loanee Danjuma in the January transfer window, according to Foot Mercato. The Ligue 1 club has been battling relegation all season and is in desperate need of reinforcements next month, with the Villarreal forward on their radar. They are thought to be considering a loan move with a buy option if the deal is less than €15 million (£13 million), but they could also go for a simple six-month loan deal if the deal is more expensive. In any case, it appears that Everton may lose their forward next month.
Danjuma has yet to settle at Everton.
Danjuma’s stats at Everton aren’t exactly impressive, as he has only scored twice in 15 appearances. With Dominic Calvert-Lewin now injury-free, the forward is unlikely to break into Dyche’s plans any time soon, suggesting that a move away would benefit all parties involved. The Dutchman is certainly one to watch as the January window opens in a matter of days.
Former Middlesbrough manager Jonathan Woodgate praised him when he was at his best, saying, “Yeah, he’s an exceptional player, in a really good place at the moment, Arnie.” He’s another one for whom I’ve done a lot of work at previous clubs, so I knew everything about him coming into this role, and I knew what type of player he was. “I know he didn’t get much of a run in the Premier League last season and may have found it difficult to get game time, but he’s been outstanding this season. I can only speak of what he’s done during my tenure, but right now, he’s playing some exceptional football and working hard for the team.
