Ashley Young has been in direct talks with Sean Dyche about extending his current contract because he is keen to stay at Everton past this summer.

On talkSPORT [May 21], Young talked about his circumstances at Goodison Park. It has been confirmed that Young will be a pundit for the upcoming European Championships.
Despite a “tough” season for the team, Young, who was signed from Aston Villa last year, is eager to extend his contract, which expires this summer. Young will be 39 at the beginning of the following season.

“I spoke with the manager and we had a brief discussion about staying for another season, but my contract expires at the end of June,” he stated.

“The only thing left to do is work out the last few details for the upcoming season.

“With off-field issues, this season has been difficult, but I do want to stay.” Whether it’s a one-year or two-year contract, I’d love to play for as long as I can.

Like Thiago Silva and James Milner, Young has played at the highest level for decades, and the fact that it’s still so easy to forget his age is a major testament to his form and fitness.
Young wants to stay in the top division until he is at least 40 years old. He has been a professional player for more than 20 years.

Young played 31 Premier League games for Dyche’s team, mostly as a full-back but also as a winger, as they narrowly avoided relegation after a stellar last third of the season.

Under Dyche, Everton maintained 12 league clean sheets during the season, with the former player for Manchester United and Inter Milan leading the team.

From the club’s point of view, it might come down to choosing between Young and 35-year-old captain Seamus Coleman, whose contracts are about to expire.

Due to severe injury concerns, Coleman has only started seven times this season; however, a one-year contract is reportedly on the table. The two will give the squad plenty of experience, if nothing else.
