Everton have been in contact with the entourage of Borussia Monchengladbach striker Winsley Boteli who is attracting interest from Juventus in the January transfer window, according to Tuttomercato.

According to the Italian news outlet, the 17-year-old is attracting a lot of attention after scoring 17 goals in 16 under-19 appearances for Monchengladbach this season.

Despite interest from the Italian giants and long-term contact with Everton, the German club has reportedly offered Boteli a new contract to entice him to stay in Germany.

Making plans for the future

Despite the fact that Boteli has not made a single senior appearance in his career, the level of interest he is attracting from some of Europe’s top clubs demonstrates how impressive he has been at academy level and the hopes for his career progression.

Everton’s interest has been piqued by his impressive goalscoring form in the youth ranks, and they may strike a deal to bring him in for the future with the goal of one day progressing into the first team and possibly selling for a profit.Kevin Thelwell discussed the club’s plan to buy young players with the eventual goal of making a profit on their sales on the VSI Sporting Directors’ podcast [6 December], and the interest in Boteli could be another step towards that plan, with the signing of Youssef Chermiti of a similar style in the summer.Everton may find it difficult to compete for his signature with Juventus interested and a new contract offer on the table from Monchengladbach, but the allure of Premier League football could be the luring factor.
