After Hearts’ goal against Celtic was disallowed due to Cameron Carter-Vickers’s play that caught Lawrence Shankland offside, Kris Boyd showered the Hoops centre back with praise.
Brendan Rodgers’ team had a terrible day on Sunday. They lost 2-0 at Tynecastle, missing the opportunity to take the lead in the Scottish Premiership standings.

After Adam Idah had a penalty saved, Hyun-jun Yang was substituted. Jorge Grant’s penalty kick gave Hearts the lead moments later. And shortly before halftime, Lawrence Shankland found the bottom corner, giving the home team the impression that they had doubled their lead.

On the pitch, the flag was not raised. After a thorough examination, the VAR did, however, rule out the goal because Shankland was a split second too early.
However, in an interview with Sky Sports (aired on March 3 at 14:20), Kris Boyd said that it’s important to take note of what Cameron Carter-Vickers did right before Shankland got the ball.

“I also think Cameron Carter-Vickers’ work is excellent. We talk about strikers changing direction mid-run. He genuinely arrived and took that action to let Shankland go, giving him every opportunity to be offside. He did this because he knew that neither he nor Scales would be able to stop him, so the only chance he had was to play himself offside. He said, “It’s excellent defending, and fortunately for Celtic, he gets away with it.

All of that, of course, would have been meaningless if Idah had scored from the spot. However, some will think Yang was unlucky to be dismissed. Many others will be curious as to why exactly Hearts was given a penalty in the 0-0 match.

However, Celtic was not really competing with Steven Naismith’s team. And if Carter-Vickers hadn’t acted quickly, they would have trailed 2-0 going into the second half.
