Exclusive: Danny Simpson Alleges Parkhead Move Was Blocked by the Celtic Board
Danny Simpson, the winner of the English Premier League, has revealed exclusively to CeltsAreHere.com why his proposed move to Celtic fell through.
Simpson was about to write something down.
“I was genuinely devastated when I was so close to signing,” he revealed exclusively to CeltsAreHere.com.
“I didn’t get to go there and win trophies, but that was my goal. Neil Lennon, the manager at the time, was supportive of it when we spoke.
Unfortunately, that’s one of the things I wish I could have done differently.
Later that summer, Simpson finally joined Huddersfield. After just a year with the team, he had short stints at Macclesfield and Bristol City before he retired two months ago.
If the 37-year-old had joined Celtic, his later years might have turned out very differently, but he says the club’s administration put an end to that dream.
The Champions League winner was questioned by CeltsAreHere.com on why the deal fell through.
He clarified, “The board.”
“It’s not going to happen,” Neil informed me over the phone.
It’s one of those items. It was 2019, a very long time ago.
“It’s unfortunate because I know the club and amazing things, but regrettably it wasn’t meant to be.”
After a move for Simpson fell through, Celtic signed right-backs Hatem Abd Elhamed, Moritz Bauer, and Jeremie Frimpong that summer.

It remains to be seen whether he would have been a success at Parkhead, but with his experience at the top level, he would have undoubtedly brought a certain level of quality to the squad.
