Exclusive: West Ham address leak that they are in talks with Forest and Saints over deals
West Ham address leak about talks with Forest and Saints.
The Forest midfielder has only started five Premier League games, and his performances have drawn harsh criticism from the team’s supporters.
At the midway point of the season, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team is in third place, making it seem unlikely that Ward-Prowse will see more playing time anytime soon.
As a result, there are many rumors that Cornet and Ward-Prowse might rejoin West Ham in the first part of January.
West Ham has now responded to a rumor that they are negotiating the deals with Southampton and Nottingham Forest.
Top Hammers insider Sean Whetstone has claimed that Ward-Prowse and Cornet could return from loans in January.
But he stated the likelihood is that West Ham will still seek fresh players to inject more pace into midfield.
West Ham, Forest, and Southampton all said that the deals would be season-long loans with no purchase commitment or set option.
It is implied that in order to return to east London, both players may have their loans terminated.
The chief spokesperson for West Ham’s owners has been contacted by Hammers News regarding the matter.
Hammers respond to Ward-Prowse and Cornet claim
We put it to the top senior London Stadium contact whether the leak about Ward-Prowse and Cornet potentially returning from Nottingham Forest and Southampton respectively was true.
The spokesman for West Ham’s owners issued a blunt statement in response.
“James Ward-Prowse and Maxwel Cornet can’t return under contract,” a West Ham spokesman told Hammers News.
This implies that the two have no possibility of rejoining the Hammers.
It’s unclear if their contracts with Forest and Saints may be terminated in order for them to go on loan elsewhere.
Given the Hammers’ midfield woes, many supporters have speculated that Ward-Prowse’s return would have been beneficial.
However, West Ham has stated that there is no possibility of it occurring.
Reverting to Ward-Prowse and Cornet would have presented a dismal image of the club’s summer operations.
In actuality, neither of them makes the West Ham team despite everyone being fit.
The Hammers have acknowledged that they have hit their PSR maximum and must generate funds through sales or new investments in order to make signings.
Ivan Juric, the manager of Southampton, has stated that an early cancellation of Cornet’s loan is the plan.
However, according to West Ham, he and Ward-Prowse are both unable to return to the team under contract, thus they will need to find other employment.
With David Sullivan regaining ultimate authority over moves, the team will also be looking to the loan market.
