League One club Exeter City are still waiting for a response from former Tottenham Hotspur and Swansea City player Tom Carroll after offering him a new contract.

Swansea City target £8 million move for Tottenham's Tom Carroll

The 32-year-old is out of contract this summer after opting for a one-year agreement with the Grecians at the start of the previous season. After a stint on the sidelines, the midfielder demonstrated his fitness, gaining a berth in the Exeter City squad.

The former England youth international made 45 appearances for the League One club, scoring twice and assisting three times as they finished in mid-table.

Carroll has previously represented Swansea City, Tottenham Hotspur, Queens Park Rangers, Ipswich Town, Leyton Orient, Derby County and Aston Villa.

Carroll, on the other hand, was noticeably absent from the team as they returned from their summer vacation, as he considers a contract offer from Gary Caldwell’s side.

What did the Exeter City manager say?

According to Devon Live, Caldwell admitted that they had made a new offer to the out-of-contract man.

“We’ve made an offer to Tom,”

“We’re in a kind of dialogue with Tom, so that’s ongoing, as loads of other situations are ongoing at the moment.”

“It’s that time of year where you’re speaking to lots of different players, but yeah, that’s currently ongoing.”

Will Carroll extend his contract with the Grecians for another year?

The decision to sign is not as simple as saying yes. The player’s family lives some distance away, so staying with the club would either require him to spend more time away from them or relocate them closer.

The 32-year-old has previously stated that he has loved his time at the club, and I believe he will be grateful to them for giving him an opportunity after missing the entire season (2022/2023) following his departure from Ipswich Town.

He has impressed since regaining his fitness, appearing more this season than he did for Swansea City in the Premier League in 2017/18.

If a suitor offers him game time and a nearby location, he may consider relocating.
