Explained: The mystery of empty rows at Celtic Park on Champions League nights

Published

on

For fans attending UEFA Champions League matches at Celtic Park, the sight of three empty rows circling the pitch might seem puzzling, especially considering the high demand for tickets during these coveted European nights.

This peculiarity, nevertheless, is related to the business realities of contemporary football and isn’t the result of low interest or ticket sales.

John Paul Taylor, Celtic’s Supporter Liaison Officer, has previously explained that the issue stems from advertising requirements during UEFA matches. On European nights, advertising boards are placed that obstruct the view from the first three rows. To ensure that fans have a clear line of sight and a quality viewing experience, Celtic chooses not to sell these obstructed seats.

Even with the sacrifice that must be made, Celtic Park’s atmosphere is unmatched on certain occasions.
The roof came off Celtic Park on Tuesday night as Celtic finally got ahead of RB Leipzig.

Parkhead’s atmosphere is usually electrifying, and fan organizations are continually trying to make it better.
