Fabrizio Romano – Saint’s 27 y/o player has said ‘yes’ to West Ham move as ‘negotiations underway’ with a swap as a viable option.

The Hammers have made Max Kilman one of their top priorities this summer, as they desperately need to improve their defence.

However, according to The Guardian, West Ham are unwilling to pay more than £35 million for Kilman, while Wolves will not lower their £45 million valuation.

As a result, the Hammers have turned their attention elsewhere, with Julen Lopetegui considering a move for Walker-Peters.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the 27-year-old defender has said “yes” to a move to West Ham, with negotiations currently underway.

Southampton want to sign Hammers midfielder Flynn Downes permanently. Downes made a big impression on loan at St Mary’s last season, helping the Saints win promotion to the Premier League through the playoffs.

Romano writes on X (28 June) that a swap between the two clubs is currently a viable option.

“Negotiations underway between West Ham and Southampton for Kyle Walker-Peters and Flynn Downes,” wrote Romano.

“Swap deal being discussed and concrete possibility as ExWHUemployee called. Kyle Walker-Peters already said yes to West Ham, still work to do between clubs.”

Walker-Peters joined Southampton in 2020 and has made 167 appearances.

The full-back is a highly experienced defender who is entering the final year of his contract at St Mary’s. The Hammers can expect to get him cheaply, but a swap would benefit both parties.

He could become West Ham’s third signing of the summer, joining goalkeeper Wes Foderingham and Brazilian winger Luis Guilherme.

Downes was signed by David Moyes, but he never made a significant impact at London Stadium. It appears he will not be given the opportunity to impress under the new manager.

He had a successful season on loan at Southampton, and a swap would benefit all parties involved.
