Financial Expert Predicts Further Key Appointments at Rangers
Rangers are set to continue strengthening their board following recent appointments, according to financial expert Stefan Borson.

The club’s recent hiring of Fraser Thornton and Patrick Stewart is part of a broader effort to bolster their hierarchy, and Borson expects more changes ahead.
Speaking to Football Insider, Borson explained:
“The chairman is only one member of the board. They are generally looking to strengthen the whole board. Patrick Stewart has come in as CEO. Clearly, that’s a very significant hire given his experience with Man United and his legal background.”
Borson believes that the club’s efforts are not solely focused on their financial difficulties, which are common across many football clubs, particularly in managing high wage bills. He noted the importance of bringing in high-quality professionals around the table, which could improve Rangers’ prospects.
“I think they need and have got high-quality professionals around the table. I don’t think it’s particularly focused on the fact they have got financial troubles. They have got the same difficulties that most football clubs have got in that costs tend to be too high, particularly on the wage bill. Obviously, everybody is searching for incremental revenue. They are then balancing all of that with the fans’ needs in seeing success on the pitch.”
While the board is crucial, Borson emphasized that the day-to-day operations of the club will be handled by the executive and management team.
“The chairman is there to head the board, but he’s not going to be the person on a day-to-day basis signing the commercial deals, looking for commercial partners, choosing the manager and all of the day-to-day stuff. That’s likely to be largely dealt with by the chief executive.”
Rangers’ Current Form and Upcoming Fixtures

Rangers are currently in second place in the Scottish Premiership, trailing their rivals Celtic. Over the weekend, they secured a 1-0 home victory against Dundee, with winger Vaclav Cerny scoring the decisive goal.
The team will return to action on Boxing Day with an away trip to St Mirren, aiming to maintain their momentum. Their final match of 2024 will be against Motherwell at Fir Park on Sunday.
With the January transfer window approaching, Rangers have an opportunity to strengthen their squad and potentially make some adjustments by allowing players to leave.
