Following weeks of speculation, Coventry City’s ‘target’ has confirmed his transfer destination.

Coventry City’s alleged pursuit of Marko Stamenic has ended, following news that the Red Star Belgrade midfielder has signed with Nottingham Forest.

The 22-year-old New Zealand international has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League team and will be immediately loaned to Olympiacos, the Reds’ owner’s Greek club, for the 2024/25 season.

According to Serbian media, the Sky Blues had agreed to sign Stamenić for a four-year contract with a transfer fee of £4.2 million and a 10% sell-on fee to his current club.

Last season, Stamenić made 35 games for Red Star, including four in the UEFA Champions League, and helped the club win the Serbian SuperLiga and Serbian Cup.

Stamenić, a 15-time New Zealand international, made his debut for the country against Curaçao in September 2021 and scored his first international goal against Qatar in June.

Nottingham Forest announced on their official website that they have signed Marko Stamenić from Red Star Belgrade.

“The 22-year-old has joined the club on a five-year deal and will spend the 2024/25 season on loan at Olympiacos.

“Stamenić arrives having played in Denmark and Serbia’s top divisions with Copenhagen and Red Star respectively.

“The midfielder made 23 senior appearances for Copenhagen, lifting the Danish Cup in his final season in Denmark before making the move to Belgrade.”
