Former First-Round Pick From Ohio State Set to Visit New Orleans Saints

Although the Saints haven’t said much during the NFL’s “Legal Tampering” period, it is clear that they are still working hard. Avonte Maddox was the subject of one reported free agent visit; now, defensive end Chase Young has revealed himself to be the subject of another intriguing one.

The free agent pass-rusher is anticipated to visit the Panthers and Saints this week, per Tom Peliserro of NFL Network. Later on, the Titans were added to his list of places to visit. Young, an Ohio State product and former first-round pick in the 2020 draft, was chosen second overall by Washington. Not everything worked out there, as on November 1, 2023, he was traded to the 49ers for a third-round pick in 2024. In addition to picking up 2.5 sacks while with San Francisco, he had a sack against the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, giving him 7.5 for the season.

The Saints could definitely use a pass-rusher, no secret about that. Although it wasn’t anticipated that New Orleans would compete in the elite league, Young is undoubtedly a fascinating prospect that will pique the interest of many teams. He is obviously talented, even though there were moments when you might not have seen the best work and output from him. We’ll see if this goes that far, but maybe a one-year contract is the best option here.
