“Going to try”: Journalist offers upbeat Updates on Caoimhin Kelleher’s transfer amid Celtic connections
With the announcement that Joe Hart will be retiring at the end of the season, Celtic will soon need to concentrate on finding a new custodian.
The 36-year-old is eager to end at Parkhead on a high note despite having a distinguished career that has seen him play at the highest level.
Regarding his decision to end his playing career, Hart said he had extensive conversations with both Brendan Rodgers and Stevie Woods prior to making his final decision.
“I simply think it was really important that with the club’s blessing,” he said. I’ve spoken with Brendan from the club and Stevie Woods about spreading the word, and it eliminates one possibility that people were speculating about.
Interestingly, Rodgers has also acknowledged that Scott Bain and Benjamin Siegrist might leave Parkhead in the summer, which could open the door for a whole new group of goalkeepers to compete for the top jersey [Sky Sports].
Initial rumours about Hart’s replacement have surfaced, with players like Caoimhin Kelleher of Liverpool and Ugurcan Cakir of Trabzonspor being mentioned as possible replacements.
As the season draws to an end, more options will surely become apparent. On the other hand, with Mark Lawwell and Joe Dudgeon on gardening leave, it is unclear who will be in charge of our transfer strategy.
Dean Jones talks about the Celtic connections of Caoimhin Kelleher.
The Republic of Ireland international Kelleher has always been mentioned as a potential Celtic signing; however, according to recent reports, his “ever-rising” transfer valuation may put him out of our price range.
On the other hand, reporter Dean Jones has hinted that the Bhoys will try to sign the 25-year-old this summer, citing Jurgen Klopp’s impending departure as a reason why he might decide to leave Anfield.
“I’m told Kelleher will be open-minded about the decision-making process that comes at the end of this season,” he said to GIVEMESPORT.
“I believe that if you’re playing as a No. 2 right now for Jurgen Klopp, you understand the journey that got you there. Because your boss fully believes in you even in the most trying situations, you know that you’re still valued and wanted, which makes it easy to stay on board.
“I think it will be very difficult for Kelleher to stay around as a backup goalie and understand what that means for him now that Klopp is gone. In addition, I think this could be his chance to really establish himself as the best somewhere else.
“I believe Celtic is a solid choice. It seems like something that could open up because of his desire to become the Republic of Ireland’s top player and the obvious Irish ties. Celtic is definitely going to give it a shot.
For Celtic, Caoimhin Kelleher would be a fantastic addition.
Kelleher would undoubtedly be a very ambitious target for Celtic to try and acquire, but we should at least inquire about his possible availability.
The Cork native has made 18 appearances for Liverpool this season in all competitions, recording five clean sheets along the way [Transfermarkt].
It’s likely that Kelleher will struggle to hold down a starting position in Klopp’s lineup once Alisson returns from injury for the Reds, and Parkhead might be the ideal setting for him to establish himself as the team’s preferred option between the sticks [Liverpool Echo].
