GOOD IDAH: PUT A SOCK IN IT

ANYONE wishing to criticise Celtic’s £9.5million striker Adam Idah in the fall-out of Republic of Ireland’s 2-0 collapse in Dublin should get an urgent reality check.

or, at the absolute least, a crash course in football fundamentals.

After the star player’s 75 minutes against a team that overcame a nervous start to dominate proceedings in a UEFA Nations League saunter at the Aviva Stadium, I’ve noticed that some people have made less than flattering remarks about him.
It surprises me that Lee Carsley’s team only had 77% of the possession in the statistics. That’s not the pitch I would have used.
Compared to the home team’s one shot on goal, the visitors had nine on target.

Idah was left to chase terribly erroneous balls that were struck out of defence with more panic than accuracy.

Idah missed the mark with a header early in the game, but he had to lean back to get the strength to make the attempt, so it was hardly a clear-cut chance.

The striker could have the chance to show why Brendan Rodgers and the champions think so highly of him when his country plays Greece at the same venue on Tuesday night, with a little help from his teammates in green.

However, he will require assistance.

Tonto was with the Lone Ranger, too.

Early in the game, Idah had a header go wide, but it was hardly a clear-cut chance because he had to lean back to gather the strength to try.

With a little assistance from his green teammates, the striker could have the opportunity to demonstrate why Brendan Rodgers and the champions think so highly of him when his country plays Greece at the same venue on Tuesday night.

But help will be needed for him.

Tonto had also accompanied the Lone Ranger.
