“He isn’t good enough.” Michael Stewart claims Postecoglou signing is only playing for Celtic due to injuries.

With Celtic struggling to find consistent form in the Scottish Premiership and a slew of injuries to deal with, Brendan Rodgers has his work cut out for him right now.

The Celtic manager has had to deal with a terrible run of injuries this season and is now forced to play players who would normally not be considered for a starting position.

And BBC pundit Michael Stewart believes this is exactly what is happening with Argentine full-back Alexandro Bernabei.

Alexandro Bernabei set for Celtic January transfer exit as clubs circle - with FOUR team-mates ready to follow him | The Scottish Sun
Ange Postecoglou signed the 23-year-old in 2022, and he arrived at Celtic with a sense of excitement as the club’s first-ever signing from Argentina.

However, it appears that Bernabei is no longer popular with Rodgers, and Stewart claims that the only reason he is getting a game is due to Greg Taylor’s injury.

Stewart said [Scottish Football Podcast], “You look at the side, to go back to it, Stephen Welsh has come on, Tony Ralston has come on, and young Vata is there as well; these are guys who would not have gotten much game time before.

“Bernabei at left-back, and I know he came in during Ange Postecoglou’s tenure; it’s no surprise he was removed. He is not good enough. He is not good enough.

“And these are the guys who are seeing more and more game time because the team is overburdened with injuries. And the quality has dropped.”
It’s difficult to disagree with Strewart’s assertion here because, out of Celtic’s 24 Scottish Premiership games this season, the 23-year-old has been left out of the matchday squad 15 times and an unused substitute twice. [Transfermarkt]

Clearly, if Taylor had not been injured, Bernabei would not have been used, and he may have received his wish to move to Italy.

There are still questions about whether Bernabei will start against Hibs on Wednesday after his role in Aberdeen’s opening goal at Pittodrie, but one thing is certain: the former Argentina u23 international’s future at Celtic appears bleak.
