The Forest fans were even heard singing Steve Cooper’s name from the away end at the King Power Stadium.
It was not just Cooper who was representing former Forest managers at the game on Friday night with O’Neill also in attendance as a pundit for SuperSport TV.
After the game, O’Neill spoke with Yates, with whom he had played 15 times, and the Irishman waxed poetic about the midfield player.
“Listen, I must admit that Yatesy was attempting to get some games while out on loan at the time. We have no better trainer than you,” O’Neill added.
