‘I don’t know what he is doing’: Chris Sutton isn’t happy with one Celtic player

Chris Sutton was critical of Joe Hart for the role he played in Motherwell’s equalising goal against Celtic on Saturday.

The Celtic legend was reviewing the team’s dropped points on Sky Sports yesterday and he highlighted the role Joe Hart played.

The 36-year-old should have collected the cross before it was headed into the back of the net by Jon Obika, with Chris Sutton stating that the experienced goalkeeper was in ’no-man’s land’, as he told Sky Sports Football (26/11/23 at 11:10 am).

Brendan Rodgers’ side weren’t helping themselves throughout the match. Luis Palma missed a penalty – Callum McGregor was brutally honest about it all after the game.

But when David Turnbull converted from the spot with four minutes left on the clock, many would have been breathing a sigh of relief.

That’s when Joe Hart didn’t help himself. That corner should have been dealt with. In the end, he did nothing but his best Peter Schmeichel impression when the Manchester United legend used to face one-v-ones.

You have to question why he wasn’t looking to collect or punch the ball instead of spreading himself out wide – from getting sent off against Livingston to his error at Feyenoord, there have been a number of questionable performances from him this season and it isn’t helping.

Joe Hart v Motherwell

“He is in no-man’s land. That ball has travelled a long way. I think he has to come and either punch that or catch it and be more commanding.”

Joe Hart’s future

All of this just raises the question about Hart’s future and the club needing to replace him.

His contract expires next summer, not many are expecting that to be extended, in fact, there is no reason to.

The 75-cap England star has served the Bhoys well, including winning the Treble under Ange Postecoglou.

But now is the time to move on and the club should be pro-active in bringing someone to the club in January, rather than waiting until the summer.
