“I now want to see the Giorgi we saw,” Tom Cleverley speaks on players performance at the Euros and his expectations of him.
Following his appearances in the Euro 24 in Germany, Giorgi Chakvetadze’s challenge now is to focus on Watford and maintain that level of performance for his club.
The midfielder received glowing reviews on television and in the press as Georgia advanced to the last 16 of their first major finals, including a memorable victory over Portugal.
However, while the 24-year-old showed much promise in his first season at Vicarage Road, he struggled with consistency at times, scoring only once in 37 appearances.
He was also left out of Watford’s final three games of the season to give him time to prepare for the finals.
“You could tell the tournament was in his mind for the last few weeks of last season, but now I hope he comes back with a clear head and ready to play for Watford, because he is a player I really like,” pointed out Tom Cleverley[Watford Observer].
“For me, I now want to see the Giorgi we saw playing for his country at the Euros on the pitch for Watford every week.”
Chakvetadze began last season on loan at Vicarage Road from Belgian club Gent, and there were some eyebrows raised when the Hornets paid £2 million in January to make the move permanent.
“He’s our player now, and that move in January looks a very good piece of business,” Cleverley said.
“He was fantastic in Germany and again he’s another player I am very proud of.
“It’s exciting for everyone connected with Watford to see our players on the biggest stages, representing the club.
“Georgia were a real success story, and I’m sure Giorgi will return in good spirits and be ready to show his good form in the tournament for his club.”
