I spotted moment of Celtic unity rubbed in Rangers’ face that convinced me Treble could be ON

Keevins reckons a moment shared between Callum McGregor and Paulo Bernardo was a sign of things to come

While experience does not always translate into wisdom, it can provide a more comprehensive perspective of past events compared to current affairs.

Because of my 54-year journalistic background and my personal experience, I am able to conclude that we are living in historic times regarding the Celtic- Rangers rivalry. I’m not necessarily referring to the park teams here. It’s the sensation that, in terms of corporate strength, I have never known a period of time when the clubs were so far apart.
When Celtic signed Arne Engels from Augsburg, they broke the club record for transfers, but they still turned a profit.

Despite their record-breaking acquisitions, Celtic still have practically mouthwatering cash on hand. Additionally, they have Dermot Desmond, their primary shareholder and de facto owner, in the background, who has been a reassuring presence for decades. And there has never been any question about his preference for Celtic to finish ahead of Rangers.

Similar to how dissenting voices were muted when Brendan Rodgers returned to Celtic as manager the previous season. It is indisputable. But he’s regained the legendary status he held during the manager’s Invincible Treble, which he achieved during his first season at the club. And there has to be a chance that this season will see two lightning strikes.

It was last Sunday at Celtic Park that the thought occurred to me. The first teammate to embrace Callum McGregor after he scored his team’s third goal against the Rangers wasn’t even on the pitch. In a celebratory move, Paulo Bernardo leaped from the dugout, ran yards along the touchline, and grabbed his captain.

It was an illustration of the kind of teamwork that has to give Rodgers hope that, in terms of domestic affairs, anything is possible. Engels took the place of the Portuguese and will undoubtedly pose a threat to his starting spot moving forward. Rodgers’ team, though, seems to understand that rotation isn’t a form of rejection. It is an example of the squad’s depth of strength.
