“I think” – Luton Town tipped as ideal destination for Nottingham Forest player
Lewis O’Brien is expected to sign with Luton Town, but Carlton Palmer believes he would also succeed at Norwich City.
Lewis O’Brien, a midfielder for Nottingham Forest, played in 23 Championship games while on loan at Middlesbrough last season.
Although they made the decision early in the summer not to exercise their option, Boro had the opportunity to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.
Forest confirmed the signing of Elliott Anderson from Newcastle United on Monday morning, and it appears as though O’Brien is going to be leaving the City Ground soon after, with Luton and Norwich interested in the 25-year-old.
Carlton Palmer’s assessment of O’Brien’s possible transfer
O’Brien is expected to move to the Championship, and former England international Carlton Palmer has expressed his opinion about the midfielder, saying Luton or Norwich would benefit greatly from having him.
Palmer only talked to Football League World, sharing his thoughts on what he would do this summer if he were in O’Brien’s shoes:
He stated: “There are rumours that Lewis O’Brien, a midfielder for Nottingham Forest, is up for loan at Luton Town and Norwich City for the upcoming campaign.
“Lewis played 23 games while on loan at Championship Middlesbrough during the previous season. Although they had the option, Middlesbrough chose not to sign the player long-term.
“Nottingham Forest would rather just offload Lewis O’Brien off the playing side; they are hoping that someone will step in and stump up the money for him. They really don’t want him to go out on loan.
“With two years remaining on his contract, Forest is hoping that a club will eventually find the money to sign him to a long-term agreement. Whether Luton or Norwich pursue a permanent deal is still up in the air; both are believed to would much rather have him on loan initially.
Which team would he be more effective on? He’s a very talented player. I believe that Luton Town’s style of play and their preferred method of attacking teams is to enter the game with three centre backs and play three in the midfield area. This allows him to balance his left foot on that side.
“I could see him succeeding at either club, but I believe Luton Town would be a fantastic move for him. Based on current form, I believe Luton Town is the front-runner to return to the Premier League the following season, while Norwich will aim to be in or near the play-offs.
“If I was the player, I would be looking at that, looking at the manager, good manager, good young manager, and they’re a team that is going to be knocking for automatic promotion next year.”
