Idah Credits Norwich City Experience Ahead of Bayern Champions League Clash

Adam Idah has acknowledged that his challenging spell at Norwich City played a crucial role in preparing him for the pressure of leading Celtic’s attack in Wednesday’s Champions League knockout first-leg against Bayern Munich.

The Republic of Ireland international has netted three goals in eight European appearances since joining Celtic for £8.5m from Norwich in the summer of 2024.

Despite being behind Teemu Pukki and Josh Sargent in the pecking order at Carrow Road, Idah has become a key figure at Parkhead, stepping up after Kyōgo Furuhashi’s January exit.

The 23-year-old has been in scintillating form, scoring four goals in his last three matches, including a Champions League brace at Aston Villa, breaking a 14-game goal drought.

Staying Mentally Strong

Reflecting on his time at Norwich, Idah spoke about the mental resilience he developed:

“I used to get on top of myself a lot and look at what other people were saying quite a bit. The older I’ve got and the more games I’ve played, I’ve realised there are always ups and downs in football.”

He remained confident during his goal drought, adding:

“It didn’t affect me at all. People thought my confidence was gone or I was upset that I wasn’t starting, but that wasn’t the case. It’s just part of football. You have to keep working hard, and when the goal does come, you hope it continues.”

Confidence for Upcoming Matches

Idah expressed belief in his ability to make a significant impact for Celtic:

“People have seen what I can do in the big games. I’m not being arrogant, but I’m confident enough that I can add another level to this team. I know the staff and players believe in me too, so hopefully I can produce that in the next couple of games.”

Inspired by Harry Kane

Idah revealed his admiration for Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane, whom he idolized growing up:

“He’s a world-class striker. I’ve played against him before when Norwich played Tottenham and when Ireland faced England. Watching him live is unbelievable. I even have his top—Matt Doherty got it for me—it’s a big one for the closet.”

Looking forward to the clash with Bayern, Idah said:

“It’ll be great to play against him and see what he’s like up close.”
