‘Ideal scenario’ – Daily Record journo issues verdict on Rangers move for 29-goal striker

Scott Burns has issued his verdict on either Rangers or Celtic making a move in January to sign Groningen striker Kevin van Veen.

The Daily Record journalist wrote in the newspaper’s print edition on 25 November, Page 57, stating that the 32-year-old will not strengthen either of the Old Firm sides.

The striker was in “sensational” form last season, where he scored 29 goals across all competitions.

“There should be a number of clubs but you can’t see the door opening for him at any of the big clubs.

“They all look well stocked at the top end and he isn’t going to get into the Rangers or Celtic teams. The ideal scenario would be a Motherwell return.

“It would be superb if Motherwell could get him back but the big Dutchman would do a job at any club outside the Old Firm. St Johnstone are crying out for a goalscorer but probably couldn’t afford him.”

Worth considering?

Rangers, under the stewardship of Philippe Clement, should consider securing van Veen’s services.

His prolific performance last season with Motherwell, netting an impressive 29 goals, showcases his goal-scoring prowess and ability to make a significant impact on the field.

Given Rangers’ aim for continued success and Clement’s strategic approach, van Veen could provide valuable attacking depth.

His previous connection to Gers, with reported interest from them earlier, adds intrigue.

As a seasoned striker, his experience could complement Rangers’ ambitions, adding a potent offensive weapon to the squad and bolstering their chances in both domestic and European competitions.

While he may not be an upgrade on the current options at the club, he could be an option worth considering for the Bears.

Whether or not Clement pushes the Rangers board to sign him, remains to be seen, but it’s evident that he is looking for attacking reinforcements in January.
