‘If I’m honest’… Joe Hart addresses his uncertain Celtic future

Celtic did an excellent job extending the contracts of the majority of their best players during the first half of the season.

When Ange Postecoglou left Celtic Park to join Tottenham Hotspur, many of the players he had brought to the club were expected to follow him.

Celtic, on the other hand, worked hard to avoid this, signing new long-term contracts with Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Matt O’Riley.

However, one of Celtic’s stalwarts over the last two seasons, Joe Hart, sees his contract expire at the end of the season, and with no new deal in sight, questions remain about Hart’s future in Glasgow after the summer.

The £1 million signing from Spurs was questioned about his current contract situation with the club. The former England international will be a free agent at the end of the season, but Hart says he isn’t concerned about the situation right now.

Hart told The Herald, “I don’t think it’s too important at the moment if I’m honest. We have far more important things to focus on.

“From the moment I came up here, I’ve always said I’m just looking forward to playing football and not really thinking about that side of it.

“I’m contracted to this amazing club and I love turning up every day and doing my best.”

Celtic should offer Joe Hart a new contract.

There is no doubt that Hart has been an integral part of Celtic’s recent success, and while a few high-profile gaffes have cast doubt on his abilities, he should be retained by the club for at least another season.

At 36, Hart’s best years are behind him, and Celtic will have to consider replacing him at some point, but he has demonstrated that he can be relied on when needed.

His experience could be critical in assisting his replacement’s integration into the club, and he has already coached some of Celtic’s young keepers this season.

At £1 million, Hart has provided excellent value. Five trophies in two seasons, as well as significant savings in the Champions League, have more than repaid the fee.
