If the deal is completed, a pundit claims that “a lot of money” will be heading Celtic’s way

Former Celtic defender Mark Wilson believes Matt O’Riley will earn a lot of money for the club next season.

O’Riley signed a contract extension with Celtic in September, extending his stay until 2027. The Dane was recently linked with moves to Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund, but with such a long-term contract in place, Celtic is under no obligation to sell O’Riley anytime soon.

O’Riley’s form at Celtic this season has earned him international recognition, leading to his debut for Denmark against Northern Ireland on Monday, where he played for 61 minutes.

This season, the Celtic midfielder has undoubtedly been the team’s star player, contributing to goals on a more consistent basis than in previous seasons. O’Riley attributes his recent improvement to Celtic first-team coach Gavin Strachan and their training together.

“I think there is a good chance that he will go.” Wilson said [Clyde One Superscoreboard]. I say that as Celtic knocked back a substantial bid this summer – £10m.

“Now he’s a full international and on the back of the six months he’s had from summer to now, you see him getting better.

“I just think someone will recognise that, I think people will already have recognised that. It will take a big bid and I think it will be a lot of money. But my fear is Matt O’Riley won’t be at Celtic at the start of next season.”

Wilson’s remarks highlight O’Riley’s recognition, not only from his national team but also from European powerhouses. In his first season under Brendan Rodgers, the Celtic midfielder has taken his game to a whole new level.

Despite the speculation about his future away from Celtic, O’Riley’s performances have not suffered as a result of a potential transfer. In his last two Scottish Premiership appearances, he has provided two assists against Aberdeen and one against St Mirren County.

O’Riley will remain focused on the pitch until the time comes to negotiate with other clubs. However, his comments about Gavin Strachan indicate that he is not in a hurry to leave Celtic. These remarks are a testament to the incredible work being done in training to improve the development of players who have joined the Hoops.
