In strong Ryan Day comments, a Michigan insider stokes the offseason rivalry with Ohio State.

Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day is a polarizing personality. Unsurprisingly, Day’s opponents are not big admirers of the coach.

Michigan Insider Sam Webb reminded us of the Wolverines’ feelings toward Day with scathing remarks regarding the Buckeyes’ leader. He gave his views on The Paul Finebaum Show.

“I feel like Day is a walking excuse. He may not say it explicitly, but the vibe he gives off, the vibe the fanbase, I think, parrots for him is that there’s always a reason that they haven’t achieved championship success. There’s a reason that Michigan has beaten up on them the last three years, and it’s everything but ‘Michigan was just better.'”

As one might assume, Webb’s remarks riled up a few Michigan and Ohio State supporters on social media.

One Buckeyes fan inflated former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh’s flaws during his tenure in Ann Arbor. Others suggested that they come back to the remarks after the next matchup.

The commentary elicited strong reactions from Michigan fans. One commenter discussed what excuses Ohio State would make this year, while another expressed agreement with Webb’s remarks.

The Game: Ohio State-Michigan by the numbers
The 2024 football season will be critical for both the Buckeyes and Ryan Day. When Day took over as head coach, Ohio State held the upper hand in their rivalry with Michigan. The coach has since given up, with the Buckeyes having lost three straight to the Wolverines.

Day should have a better team this season. The 2024 offseason has seen Michigan suffer as a result of NFL draft departures. Still, Ohio State has yet to demonstrate that it can “win the big one” consistently since Day took over as head coach.

Michigan and Ohio State will once again compete for bragging rights on November 30 in Columbus, Ohio.
