“It Could Have Been Worse” – Rodgers Reveals Lucky Escape for Idah
Following Motherwell’s Liam Gordon’s careless challenge during Sunday’s 3-0 victory, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has offered insight into Adam Idah’s injury. Gordon was given a straight red for the incident, although Rodgers said that the Irish forward’s injuries might have been less severe due to certain circumstances.
Fans expressed alarm over the late-game challenge, but Rodgers defended Gordon’s motivations. The difficulty wasn’t perfect. It was late in the game, but I still think the guy didn’t mean any harm,” he continued.
Speaking at Tuesday’s press conference, Rodgers explained how a wet pitch allowed Idah’s foot to slide rather than stick in place, potentially saving him from a worse fate. “Thankfully, the pitch was wet, which allowed his foot to move. On a dry pitch, his foot might have stuck, leading to a more serious injury,” Rodgers told CeltsAreHere. Idah, who has been wearing a protective boot since the challenge, is showing some signs of improvement. “He’s shown some improvement, and we’re hopeful for a positive outcome. We haven’t lost him yet; we’ll see what the scan says.”
