Benjamin Siegrist and Celtic ‘hasn’t worked out,’ but EVERY team in Scotland would have signed him.

The Hoops signed the former Dundee United custodian to provide competition for veteran Nos. 1 Joe Hart and Scott Bain, but he has yet to make an impact and remains No3.

According to John Hartson, EVERYONE in Scotland would have signed Benjamin Siegrist, but it just ‘hasn’t quite worked out’ at Celtic.

The Hoops signed the former Dundee United goalkeeper to provide competition for veteran goalkeepers Joe Hart and Scott Bain. However, the move has not gone as planned for both the player and the club, with the Swiss stopper currently third in the pecking order. Former Parkhead striker Hartson is confident in the 31-year-old’s abilities, describing him as “the BEST in the country” before joining the Scottish champions.

Celtic boss clears up Ben Siegrist situation after absences

This season, Brendan Rodgers has yet to call on him, and he is rarely included in matchday squads. After Hart was sent off against Livingston, the Celtic manager had to make a key decision between the two back-ups, with Bain – who came on that day at the Tony Macaroni Arena – getting the nod against Motherwell and Siegrist getting a rare seat on the bench.

His time under Ange Postecoglou was not much better, with the majority of his time spent either on the bench or out due to injury. He appeared in just TWO games in total, both in the League Cup against Ross County and Motherwell.

“Siegrist was the best goalkeeper in the country when Celtic bought him,” Hartson said on Go Radio. He hasn’t been playing.

“Everybody would have signed Siegrist. Everyone in Scotland would have signed Siegrist.

“That one hasn’t quite worked out, as probably the player and the club expected to.”
