‘It’s Happening’ – Keith Wyness drops verdict on Nottingham Forest’s next signing

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Nottingham Forest need to prioritise strengthening their defence ahead of next season.

Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who was CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and now runs a football consultancy that advises elite clubs, believes Nuno Espirito Santo’s side lacked cover for some of their first-team players last season.

After taking over for Steve Cooper as manager of Forest in December, the Portuguese manager led the club to safety.

Although they finished one place above the relegation zone, the club received a four-point deduction after being charged with spending violations.

Forest have been active in the transfer market, having already signed five players this summer, including Elliot Anderson, Nikola Milenkovic, Marko Stamenic, Carlos Miguel, and Eric da Silva Moreira.

Nottingham Forest must bring in cover for their first-team stars.
However, Wyness has suggested that Nuno will continue to look to add more balance to his squad in order to avoid becoming overly reliant on his star players next season.
He told Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, “I believe they are still lacking in defensive cover. I expect it to happen.

“Last season revealed that they haven’t got the cover.”I believe Nuno will focus on having some balance behind the main players and a squad-based situation.

“That’s what they need to be consistent because everybody gets the injuries and they have got to have that consistency to push up the league table.”
