Everton
I’ve known about Everton’s interest to sign me for a long time – I want to show the world my level
Jesper Lindstrom scored on his maiden Everton appearance after signing from Napoli on a season-long loan.
According to Jesper Lindstrom, Everton pursued his interest for a “long time,” and he is now focused on having an impact in the Premier League.
Last month, the winger concluded his season-long loan from Napoli to Goodison Park with the goal of resuming his career. Lindstrom played for Eintracht Frankfurt for two fantastic seasons, helping the Bundesliga team win the Europa League title in 2022. Then, last summer, Lindstrom signed a reported €30 million contract to join Napoli. Despite making 22 Serie A appearances, the Danish international had a disappointing 2023–24 season in Italy, starting just twice.
Before the upcoming season, though, director of football Kevin Thelwell and manager Sean Dyche recognised Lindstrom as a player who can improve Everton’s offensive capabilities. In his debut appearance, the 24-year-old scored a magnificent free kick to help the Blues defeat Preston North End 3-0 in a preseason friendly.
Lindstrom is now hoping to impress at Everton and show off his abilities. In an interview with reporters following Preston’s victory, he stated: “I was aware of Everton’s interest long ago, not just this year. After a few conversations, I said, “Let’s go,” as soon as they indicated they wanted me. Everton is a large team with a long history, and I wanted to visit the Premier League and try something new. There was absolutely no issue. Just some areas for negotiations and other things. However, football is involved. It’s challenging to go every day because there are ongoing negotiations. However, once I learnt about it, making the decision was simple because, as I mentioned earlier, being here felt right. I had heard the guys were incredible.
It feels so natural, as though I’ve been here for a few months, I told my mental coach and agent. Thus, yes, they are taking excellent care of the coaches, players, physiotherapists, and me. Thus, I’m overjoyed to be here. I still need to get it going because I still need to occasionally look up when I get the ball, and I need the time to do that, but I also want to be prepared for the Premier League.”I experienced some successful seasons in Frankfurt and, as you mentioned, a challenging one in Italy. I therefore want to resume my course. I want to prove to everyone that I am still capable of performing at my level and that I have a few minutes left in me.
When Lindstrom scored a superb free kick against Preston, he couldn’t have had a greater effect. Despite having a slight thigh ailment when he arrived, he was attentive and focused on making more goal contributions.
“Winning games and scoring goals are always positive things,” Lindstrom continued. And sure, it felt good to get a few minutes under my belt—I had been looking forward to it—but I didn’t want to take a chance because I was having some minor issues. Thus, I am overjoyed.
“I just told the guys that it’s mine going forward,” in our conversation. I’ll do everything in my power to support the team and achieve our goals because that’s what my pay is for.
