Frimpong made 51 appearances for the club before leaving to join Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga in 2021.

His Celtic stay was brief, but it’s clear that his decision to leave was beneficial to him personally.

Frimpong, now 23, is a Netherlands international who was a member of Leverkusen’s incredible undefeated team last season and was recently named one of the world’s top 100 players.

He’s a highly touted prospect who frequently makes headlines for his transfer. A significant move, possibly the biggest possible, is on the way.

Real Madrid ‘like’ Jeremie Frimpong

The Athletic reported over the weekend that Real Madrid is interested in the former Celtic right-back. He has been identified as one of five potential long-term replacements for Dani Carvajal.

Frimpong’s contract with Leverkusen last year included a €40 million release clause, and he is said to be interested in playing in La Liga.

A deal is possible. Not only would it boost Frimpong’s fame and profile, but Celtic would benefit financially as well.

Celtic has a significant sell-on percentage for any Frimpong deal.

Celtic sold Frimpong to Leverkusen for £11.5 million.

We understand that approximately 15% of any profit made by the German side on a subsequent transfer is due.

If a club pays €40 million for Frimpong’s release, Leverkusen will profit by around £22 million.

With 15% of that totalling around £3.3 million, Celtic could profit handsomely from Frimpong’s future transfer.

Seeing Frimpong reach the pinnacle of elite football would be satisfying enough, but if it brings significant benefits to the Scottish champions, let’s hope it happens soon rather than later.
