Joe Hart is pleased with Celtic’s ‘powerful’ internal moves this window.
Celtic have been quiet in the transfer window and may face a hectic final few days in the search for late arrivals.
Nicolas Kuhn has signed for £3 million and is the only newcomer to walk through the Parkhead entrance this month.
However, there is a chance that the former Germany Under-20 international will be joined by a couple of additional players before the deadline.
Rumours about who could be next are few and far between, but Bologna striker Sydney van Hooijdonk’s name continues to circulate as the Hoops look for attacking reinforcements.
Brendan Rodgers has also made retaining key players a priority, as evidenced by Cameron Carter-Vickers signing a new five-and-a-half-year contract after an unnamed Qatari club attempted to sign the US international.
Matt O’Riley was also the subject of a failed January bid from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid. Despite this, Rodgers has confirmed that he will stay at Parkhead for the rest of this season [Sky Sports].
Joe Hart is pleased that Celtic will retain O’Riley and Carter-Vickers.
Keeping your best players is always important, especially given Celtic’s current title race.
Joe Hart agrees and believes that retaining O’Riley and Carter-Vickers is a ‘powerful’ statement of intent from the Scottish champions.
When asked about Carter-Vickers’ contract renewal and the rejected offer for O’Riley, the former England international said [The Herald]: “Powerful moves, powerful moves. Cam is a top player, and he is loved here, rightly so, for the performances he puts in.
“He does it away from prying eyes as well, he is a top professional. I knew him from Tottenham and he is a pleasure to play with.
“I’m the other side of the Cameron and Matt O’Riley situations and I’m pleased about that because I can just focus on playing football.”
Celtic must do more than just protect key assets.
Protecting your key assets is important, but Celtic’s need for more depth in certain areas was highlighted by their close shave against Ross County last weekend.
Kyogo Furuhashi is the only senior striker available for the Hoops at the moment, as Hyeongyu Oh and Daizen Maeda are away for the AFC Asian Cup.
Despite playing the entire match, the Japan international only made 16 touches.
In reality, Rodgers needs another offensive option when the 29-year-old is crowded in the box.
Alexandro Bernabei filled in for Greg Taylor at left-back, but he did not shine on the rare occasion when he was selected to start for the Bhoys.
Both positions require strengthening, and Celtic fans will eagerly await the final days of the transfer window.
