John Hartson believes a surprise with Reo Hatate is possible ahead of Celtic vs. Rangers.

Celtic have missed Reo Hatate’s personality in the middle of the park, and it’s encouraging to hear that he’s getting closer to returning.

Brendan Rodgers stated that the 26-year-old is targeting a January return after missing the last eight Scottish Premiership games, including three European ties, due to injury.

But, according to John Hartson, there may be a surprise in store here, and Reo Hatate may return sooner rather than later.

Celtic will face Rangers on December 30, with John Hartson saying, ‘I wouldn’t be surprised if he is included in that team,’ as he told Go Radio.

Brendan Rodgers has previously stated that the Japan international is unlikely to play in the Asian Cup games in January.

That’s most likely him sending a message that he doesn’t want his star midfielder to be selected because it won’t help Celtic’s cause.

In any case, fans will be pleased to see Reo Hatate’s name on the Rangers teamsheet, and John Hartson believes it is a possibility.

“I think Hatate will be a big one to come back,” said Hartson. “They have missed him. They have missed his drive and his goal threat.

“He gets up and down the pitch. But he is better in the final third. There are 18 more days to go until Celtic play Rangers.

“He (Rodgers) thinks it’s early January, but if he recovers really, really well then I wouldn’t be too surprised if he is included in that team.”

The sooner he returns, the better for Celtic and the team’s underwhelming performances.

This Celtic side needs that bite, flair, and arrogance, with Hatate proving to be a bigger miss in Europe.

While the Bhoys can get away with losing key players on the domestic stage and still win, the same cannot be said for the Champions League.

In other news, ‘They’ve got to stop,’ says Neil Lennon, irritated by Rangers penalty incidents during a pundit dispute.
