Jorge Mendes sensationally offered ‘incredible’ striker to Nottingham Forest before £69.4m PSG move
Nottingham Forest had the chance to sign Goncalo Ramos.
That is according to The Athletic, which has noted why a potential transfer to the City Ground did not happen. So, what has been reported about Nottingham Forest and Goncalo Ramos? Let’s take a look. Goncalo Ramos to Nottingham Forest was always unlikely I do not think that Nottingham Forest were going to be able to sign Goncalo Ramos. That the striker turned down the chance to move to the City Ground says a lot. After all, Forest had just won promotion from the Championship to the Premier League for the 2022-23 season. As with any promoted side, there was the risk of getting relegated. I suspect that Ramos realised that and decided to stay at Benfica. Moreover, the transfer fee that PSG are paying for Ramos is too much for Forest. The Reds cannot afford to spend over £60 million on a single player, and that too on someone who is only 22 now. The Athletic has reported that Ramos could have been starring for Forest right now.
The report has claimed that the striker’s agent, Jorge Mendes, offered him to Forest in the summer of 2022 when the Reds were trying to get a deal done with Wolverhampton Wanderers for Morgan Gibbs-White. “In that same window, he proposed a deal that would have been, for a newly promoted club, sensational: striker Goncalo Ramos, who scored a hat-trick for Portugal in the World Cup finals’ knockout phase a few months later, was being offered from Benfica,” states the report. “Mendes, whose other clients include Jose Mourinho, David de Gea and Joao Felix, has always specialised in the best Iberian talent. But Ramos decided to stay where he was and Forest missed out on a player who has since moved to Paris Saint-Germain in a €80million (£69.4m/$88.1m at current exchange rates) deal.” I do not think that Nottingham Forest were going to be able to sign Goncalo Ramos. Ramos has made eight starts and five substitute appearances in Ligue 1 for PSG this season. The striker has scored three goals in those games. He has also made one start and four substitute appearances in the UEFA Champions League for the French club this campaign.
