Julen Lopetegui will make Nayef Aguerd decision at West Ham United following transfer news.
Frank McAvennie believes West Ham will keep Nayef Aguerd while selling Kurt Zouma following the arrival of Max Kilman from Wolves.
The club stated [6 July] that the 28-year-old joined Julen Lopetegui’s squad earlier this month, having previously played for the Spaniard at Molineux.
Aguerd has been extensively linked with a move away from the London Stadium this summer, but McAvennie believes the Hammers will keep the Moroccan despite his lack of game time last season.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, he stated, “I’d play Aguerd and Kilman together.” Kilman is a no-nonsense defender, and Aguerd enjoys playing. Zouma has lost his legs.
“I’ve been watching him a few times, and I’m telling him to go get the ball and not let it bounce. As soon as you let it bounce, it becomes the striker’s ball. The center-forward does not want it in the air. Why doesn’t he simply head it? The players simply ran away from him.
“I believe Zouma will want to play somewhere else. Ogbonna is also gone. They’re talking about Aguerd’s desire to go, yet he wants to leave due to a lack of playing time. This next manager may want to play him. With the new manager, everything starts over.
“I’m hoping things will change because they’ve got a good nucleus with the team now.”
West Ham United will lose Kurt Zouma, with Nayef Aguerd poised to stay.
Under David Moyes, the entire defence was lambasted during the 2023/24 season, with Zouma often taking the brunt of the criticism as club captain, and his future is now reported to be “in doubt” [The Athletic].

West Ham
Nayef Aguerd has struggled while at West Ham United.
And, after joining for £30 million from Rennes in June 2022, according to BBC Sport, Aguerd was grossly underutilized, making only 21 Premier League starts and missing multiple games.
While the Moroccan remains linked with a summer exit, Lopetegui’s appointment could significantly alter the defender’s future at the London Stadium.
In other news, West Ham joins Leicester in expressing interest in a player. Increasingly chaotic due to’sly’ rivalry.
