Nottingham Forest news: Wyness demands points deduction ‘amnesty’
Following Nottingham Forest’s point deduction, former Everton manager Keith Wyness has called for a “amnesty” under the Profitability and Sustainability Rules for promoted clubs.
The 66-year-old, who ran a football consultancy advising elite clubs after serving as CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009, stated the PSR threshold should be raised from £105 million to £200 million in an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis insisted, “PSR seems to me to be an unfair system that doesn’t match the reality of global standards in football,” in an interview with the Daily Mail on May 13.
“I had to invest in order to create a competitive and sustainable club,” the Greek billionaire insisted.
Earlier this year, Nottingham Forest lost four points for exceeding PSR by £34.5 million.
Wyness wants PSR amnesty following the owner of Nottingham Forest’s statement.
In the 2022–23 season, after being promoted from the Championship, they signed 30 players.
Wyness stated on the Insider Track podcast of Football Insider, “I completely concur with Marinakis.
“Football inflation has not been taken into account.”To increase the breach barrier, there should likely be an annual increase, similar to the CPI.
“At £105 million, we should be closer to £200 million, which would have meant that neither Forest nor Everton would have violated any rules at all.
“I’ve also discussed offering promoted teams, like Ipswich, a three-year amnesty to try and strengthen their squads and give them a chance to strengthen their squads.”That seems like a reasonable system that everyone can understand, and it would be much more equitable.
“We all want a much more competitive Premier League, and that is what it would lead to.”
