Celtic have had tremendous domestic success over the last two and a half decades.

Three things Celtic must do to secure 10 in a row

A second nine-in-a-row and a Quadruple Treble have made this period one of Celtic’s most successful in history, with the club hoovering up trophy after trophy as they dominate the Scottish game.

However, Kevin Thomson was referring to recent season triumphs, specifically Greg Taylor’s efforts, which prompted the BBC man to defend the Celtic fullback.

Taylor receives a lot of flak from Celtic fans, but Thomson believes that the qualities he brings to the team makes him one of Brendan Rodgers’ hidden heroes this season.

Greg Taylor is’really’ respected by Celtic teammates

Greg Taylor has his say on Scotland omission and reveals subtle differences between Celtic managers
Cards on the table: Greg Taylor is good. He has flaws, but what he’s done to help Celtic remain successful, particularly during the Ange Postecoglou reconstruction, cannot be underestimated.

So it’s no surprise Thomson gushed over the Celtic defender, who is 26 years old.

Thomson replied [on the Scottish Football Podcast],  “And you mention people like Greg Taylor. I know how difficult it is to win over the O-d F-rm fans. You’re up against it every time you touch the ball where you become a hero or a zero.

“But I have to say that he’s probably been one of the ones for me that will be an unsung hero in that Celtic team.

“Because he’s not flashy, he’s not one of the big names but I bet his teammates really respect him for the energy that brings to the team and the the quality that he brings in the final third.”

Greg Taylor’s Celtic statistics

Taylor has made 164 appearances for Celtic under Neil Lennon and Brendan Rodgers.

Taylor faced a lot of undeserved expectation during his debut season at the club after being signed as a replacement for the departing Kieran Tierney.

After a difficult first season at Celtic, in which he made only 17 appearances, it wasn’t until Ange Postecoglou arrived that Taylor truly excelled.

Taylor, an ever-present for Ange, made 78 appearances and thrived in the inverted fullback post, helping the Australian coach win five of six titles, including a record-breaking eighth treble.

The Scotland defender struggled at first under Rodgers, but he has since played 37 times for Ireland and has just appeared in a game.

Despite his limitations, Taylor remains a crucial first-team player who will have a significant impact on whether Celtic keeps the title this season.
