Kieran Tierney explains his true feelings on Celtic’s draw with Rangers.
If there was ever a former player who had one eye on Celtic’s game against Rangers on Sunday, it was Kieran Tierney.
The Arsenal defender is presently on loan at Real Sociedad and playing in the Spanish club’s first squad.
After suffering a hamstring injury at the start of the season, the former Celtic player returned to action in February, and Sociedad has lost one and won three of their past four La Liga games.
That hasn’t stopped Tierney from keeping an eye on his boyhood idols, and he admits the Ibrox game was ‘one of the best’ he’s seen in recent years.
Kieran Tierney is ‘devastated’ after Celtic’s draw with Rangers
Tierney met Rangers 13 times throughout his Celtic career, winning ten, drawing two, and losing only once. The Scotland defender assisted four times in those games, helping Celtic win a treble, and he revealed that the 3-3 scoreline on Sunday left him ‘devastated’.
Tierney remarked [talkSPORT]: “One of the best games I’ve watched in a long time. Absolutely devastated not to hold on to the victory.
“But to be honest, to go there with no fans and come away with a point and have the title in your hands still is all we can ask for after a game like that.”
I think a point at Ibrox is a fair result in those circumstances, but I can understand Tierney’s disappointment at not winning when 2-0 up and then 3-2 with less than ten minutes to go.
However, any Celtic fan would have taken a draw before the game, especially after learning that Callum McGregor would not start.
As things stand, Celtic have control of the title, which is something they all wanted at this point in the season.
