Kris Boyd Stirs the Pot Amid Brendan Rodgers Fanbase Debate
Brendan Rodgers’ recent comments critiquing certain sections of the Celtic fanbase have sparked spirited debate among supporters.

His remarks, made after the team’s weekend victory, addressed groans over backpasses and chants for former player Kieran Tierney. While some fans found the timing of his criticism inappropriate, others felt Rodgers had a valid point, though perhaps not articulated in the best manner.
Unsurprisingly, former Rangers player Kris Boyd has taken this as an opportunity to add fuel to the fire. Speaking to Sky Sports, Boyd sarcastically remarked:
“The fans better not be singing about past managers or past players, that will upset Brendan Rodgers again.”
Boyd’s comment was a clear attempt to provoke Celtic supporters, suggesting a rift between the manager and the fanbase.
The Debate Among Celtic Fans
Rodgers’ original comments, in which he labeled chants for Tierney as “disrespectful” to current left-back Greg Taylor, have been divisive. Some fans felt publicly addressing the issue was unnecessary and risked alienating the support. Others, however, believe Rodgers was simply calling for unity and respect for the current squad.

Rodgers’ return to Celtic was met with initial scepticism, but his success—securing a league and cup double—helped to shift focus back to football. While his latest remarks may not have been received warmly by all, they hardly signal the internal strife Boyd appears to suggest.
Media Tactics and Fan Response
Boyd’s comments exemplify a familiar media strategy: amplifying tensions for dramatic effect. By framing Rodgers’ remarks as evidence of division, Boyd’s statement aims to stir emotions rather than provide meaningful analysis.
Celtic fans, however, have repeatedly shown their ability to rise above such provocations. While Rodgers’ comments might have sparked some disagreement, they are unlikely to create the significant rift Boyd implies. Instead, the focus remains on football, with supporters keen to back their team in tonight’s match against Dundee United and beyond.
