Kris Boyd’s rant is embarrassing for Graeme Souness following his Celtic claim, as Rangers lose again.

Celtic moved nine points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table on Wednesday evening following their victory over Dundee and Rangers’ loss to Aberdeen.

Celtic are now clearly in a title battle with Aberdeen, with the two teams tied on points (28) and Brendan Rodgers’ side leading on goal difference (+26 to +11).

It may have taken Celtic until the hour mark to score their first goal against Dundee, but the champions won comfortably 2-0.

But, let’s be honest, while everyone expected three points at Parkhead, all eyes were on Pittodrie and the outcome of Aberdeen’s match against Rangers.

Position Team Played Won Drawn Lost For Against Diff Points
1 Celtic 10 9 1 0 29 3 26 28
2 Aberdeen 10 9 1 0 20 9 11 28
3 Rangers 10 6 1 3 15 8 7 19
4 Motherwell 10 5 1 4 13 13 0 16
5 Dundee Utd 10 4 3 3 14 12 2 15
6 Kilmarnock 10 3 3 4 13 20 -7 12
7 ST Mirren 11 3 2 6 15 21 -6 11
8 Ross County 11 2 5 4 10 18 -8 11

In the end, Philippe Clement watched his team suffer yet another humiliating defeat, leaving them closer to Ross County in eighth place than the champions themselves.

Kris Boyd went on a little rant following Rangers’ defeat to Aberdeen, but not long ago, a certain Graeme Souness was telling us something completely different.

Graeme Souness does not believe there is a Celtic and Rangers gap.

You won’t find many more deluded pundits than Souness, but at the end of the day, you enjoy it because it keeps you entertained.

As everyone saw last season, even with Ange Postecoglou on his way out, Rodgers returned and delivered not only the title, but also the famous late winner in the Scottish Cup final.

However, Souness continued to claim that there is no gap between Celtic and Rangers, as he did at the start of the season.

“The discussion last season was about the gap,” Souness said.

“Now I don’t think there is such a big gap. I really don’t. I think I saw about four games, two O-d F-rm games last year of Rangers. I obviously watch them on the telly when they are on, I watch Celtic when they are on, I don’t see the gap as being enormous.”

While one former Rangers player cannot see the light, it is encouraging to see that another can.

It’s amazing that Kris Boyd noticed that, but he went on an interesting rant following Rangers’ loss to Aberdeen on Wednesday night.

Souness stated that there isn’t much of a gap between his former club and Celtic, but Boyd sees things very differently.

The former striker told Sky Sports (30/10/24 at 10:45 pm) that Aberdeen is’miles ahead’ of Rangers.

It’s embarrassing for Souness because, at this point, they can forget about Celtic’s lead and focus on catching Aberdeen.

“They (Rangers) are absolutely everything that Rangers aren’t,” Boyd said following the team’s most recent defeat. “They have got a workrate. They have got a style of play about them – Rangers, I know it’s quarter 11, but it might be half 11 by the time I finish with this.

“There is no style or no connection with Rangers. They are hoping something will happen – Rangers don’t dominate games of football. If you are going to be one of the bigger clubs in the country, you dominate games. You wear the opposition down. It just doesn’t happen with Rangers.

“From top to bottom, Rangers are leaderless. I don’t care what anyone says. Aberdeen have recruited a team within £2 million. By the way, sold their best player. They have built this team on £2 million. They are miles ahead of Rangers, in terms of structure and even a work ethic to go and play. Rangers have spent over £10 million and downgraded in every single position.”
