Kylian Mbappe factor could lure Qatar into Everton takeover amid £800m twist
The departure of Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain may set off a chain reaction that entices Qatar to acquire Everton.
The move that has been most anticipated in recent football history sees the 24-year-old join Real Madrid.
After spending six seasons in the French capital and making hundreds of millions of dollars in one of the most lucrative deals ever, he is leaving PSG.
During his tenure at Parc de Princes, Qatar Sports Investment—a sovereign wealth fund led by Qatari dignitary Nasser Al-Khelaifi—was his employer.
In football, QSI and Al-Khelaifi have grown to be extremely powerful players.
However, Everton owner Farhad Moshiri may be looking to enter Premier League football as he seeks takeover suitors in the wake of 777 Partners’ disastrous attempt to purchase the team.
Final years at PSG could entice Qatar to join the Premier League
Superstars have left PSG in greater numbers than just Mbappe in recent years.
The “galactico” era of Lionel Messi and Neymar came to an end with their departures, and Mbappe’s Real Madrid is now the last nail in the coffin.
The fact that Ligue 1 is still searching for a broadcast rights agreement for the upcoming season poses an even greater threat to QSI and Qatar’s clubs.
Ligue 1 is still looking for a deal worth £800 million a season. If this were not done, the broadcast market for football in Europe would experience an unprecedented twist.
The majority of experts concur that Qatar is more interested in using soft power to expand their influence than in using football to make money.
Their PSG investment may no longer yield that without a TV deal or their primary assets, superstar players.
That might entice them to seize control of another country in Europe, possibly England.
Might Qatar acquire Everton?
A potential Everton takeover has been discussed with a number of organisations, including the Qatar Investment Authority, as iNews reported earlier this year.
In this regard, there has been no update, and it looks like MSP Sports Capital and a group headed by local businessmen Andy Bell and George Downing are the front-runners.
If Qatar were to enter the Premier League, Everton would undoubtedly be the kind of team they would aim to sign.
Corporately speaking, the Qatar Investment Authority is a different organisation from QSI.
However, both are governed by members of the Royal Family of Qatar and share the same goals with regard to sports investment.
Additionally, if they split up, QSI wouldn’t have to give up their ownership of PSG in order to join Everton.
It would be a commensurate move from the Gulf state, which shows no signs of slowing down its investment in football, even though there is currently no indication that this is part of Qatar’s master plan.
