KYOGO: ALARM BELLS RINGING

KYOGO FURUHASHI was one game away from winning his second successive Premiership title this time last year.

The impressive 30-goal milestone was merely one strike away for Celtic’s Japanese international striker.

On Sunday afternoon, May 7, Furuhashi and his teammates were preparing for a pivotal championship matchup against Hearts at Tynecastle. They were aware that victory over the Edinburgh club would give Ange Postecoglou his second championship.

Once more, the quick forward delivered a superb finish near the post to give the visitors a 68th-minute lead following a deft pass from Reo Hatate.
The prolific Celt celebrated the game-changing goal that took him to 50 goals since moving to Glasgow for a bargain £4.6 million from J-League Vissel Kobe in July 2021. The ball found its way into the net behind the defenceless Zander Clark.

Soon after the marksman’s lethal finish, Oh Hyeon-gyu came on as a substitute and scored the game-winning goal in the 2-0 victory that gave the Hoops their eleventh championship in twelve seasons.

Kyogo is set to face the same opponents this afternoon in Glasgow’s east end, just three days away from the 12-month mark.

This time around, the international attacker is finding it difficult to be consistent, as evidenced by his pitiful 16 goals this season.

Many observers are perplexed by the player’s startling decline in scoring rate.

John Kennedy: Kyogo Furuhashi is a 'Special Talent'

The 29-year-old forward brought down the curtain in typical fashion on June 3, scoring the first goal in the 3-1 Scottish Cup Final victory over Inverness Caley Thistle at Hampden. He finished the previous crusade with a well-deserved 34 goals.
Kyogo scored 20 goals in his first season, despite missing FOUR MONTHS of action due to two different injuries.

The crowd favourite currently has four league games and a Scottish Cup championship match left to increase his current total.

Recent times have seen questions raised concerning Kyogo, who on a few occasions gave way to Adam Idah, the powerhouse on loan from Norwich City.

Parkhead today might offer the ideal stage for the well-liked Celt to respond to his detractors.
