Brendan Rodgers insists that whether or not Kyogo undergoes shoulder surgery is entirely up to him.

During his time with Vissel Kobe in Japan, the Celtic striker had shoulder problems that predated his arrival at Parkhead. It has acted up on several occasions, keeping him out of major games in the past. It flared up again last weekend, forcing him to miss the game against Hibs before being ruled out for the second time in a row against Leith.

Rodgers is aware of the player’s issues, which may be resolved through surgery. However, the manager acknowledges that this would rule him out for up to four months and would not be a decision made lightly, with Adam Idah the club’s only other recognised striker option outside of a makeshift Daizen Maeda move.

“He could have surgery, but it takes him out for probably about four months,” Rodgers said of Kyogo. “It’s only him that can decide that because you see a lot of times he gets through games fine.

“But then times he’ll fall, maybe it’ll be awkward and he has an irritation. Listen, he’s a 29-year-old man now, so he’ll understand what he wants to do. But again, he’s managed it for a longer period, much longer than he’s been at Celtic.

“I gave him the time. We could have had him back into the [Hibs] game, but I gave him the time to miss the game and then I’ll speak to him tomorrow (Monday).”
