Kyrie Irving has been ruled out indefinitely. The Dallas Mavericks announced on Saturday that an MRI revealed the All-Star guard suffered a right heel contusion against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night.

Irving has returned to Dallas, where the Mavericks play the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday, to begin treatment. At this time, the team says there is no timetable for his return.

The injury occurred with less than four minutes remaining in the second quarter. Duop Reath of Portland fouled Irving as he drove to the basket, knocking him to the floor. At the same time, Dallas center Dwight Powell, who was moving toward the ball, collided with Irving, landing on his right ankle.

Irving made two free throws after Powell tripped him, then walked back to the locker room with a noticeable limp. He never returned to the game.

“[It’s] just a right foot injury. That’s all I can tell you,” Kidd said at the postgame press conference. “We’ll know more tomorrow.”

Aside from the MRI results, ESPN reports Irving is in a lot of pain. However, the team is relieved that he did not sustain a serious injury.
