Last night on Sky Sports, Chris Sutton delivered an intriguing message about Celtic and Rangers.

Celtic’s match against Rangers on December 30th is getting closer.

Celtic and Brendan Rodgers will want more of the same after last week’s victory at Ibrox.

After both Celtic and Philippe Clement’s Rangers won last night, the gap at the top of the table is now eight points, with the latter having a game in hand.

If you had offered this current situation to Celtic fans at the start of the season, everyone would have accepted it.

However, Chris Sutton believes that ‘there is a title race on this season’ and that ‘Celtic haven’t been at their best,’ as he told Sky Sports Football (06/12/23 at 10:25 pm).

It should be noted that the Bhoys are still unbeaten after a convincing 4-1 win over Hibernian, but the players haven’t really let loose on a consistent basis.

While a win for Celtic over Rangers on December 30 would effectively end talk of a title race for some – just ask Michael Stewart – the outspoken Chris Sutton believes it’s game on.

The title race between Celtic and Rangers

“These periods of games, they come thick and fast,” said Sutton. “It’s a really important period of games.

“Celtic haven’t been at their very best. Rangers need to make sure they don’t drop silly points. They did drop silly points at Aberdeen.

“But I think there is a title race on this season, I do. You have the European fixture coming up.”

On December 30, Celtic will face Rangers.

This game has a lot riding on it. Get the three points here, and then consider yourself from Rodgers’ point of view.If both teams earn a point, the door is left open, and you don’t want the unthinkable to happen.

It should also be noted that key players are returning from injury and adding to the squad, with Daizen Maeda back in training.
