The Reds return to Premier League action this weekend, but Arne Slot may have one or two fitness issues to deal with after the first international break of the season.

Liverpool return to domestic duty on Saturday against Nottingham Forest, as Arne Slot seeks a fourth consecutive Premier League victory.

The Reds have been relatively injury-free in the early stages of the 2024-25 season, allowing the new manager to keep the same lineup for the last two games, though luck may run out ahead of this weekend.

With some players returning from international duty as late as Thursday, most notably Liverpool’s South American contingent, Slot may be forced to change things up to keep things interesting.

With that in mind, here is the most recent injury news from Anfield, as well as potential return dates for members of Slot’s squad, as Liverpool looks to maintain its perfect Premier League record this weekend.

Alexis MacAllister

Alexis Mac Allister, a Reds midfielder, is currently on international duty with Argentina and scored the opening goal in a 3-0 victory over Chile on Thursday. However, it came just one day after La Albiceleste manager Lionel Scaloni claimed the 25-year-old had missed training due to muscle overload.

Scaloni told TyC Sports that Mac Allister was “in pain,” but the former Brighton player was named to the starting lineup regardless. However, he was replaced after 79 minutes due to an adductor injury, which forced him to miss Tuesday’s match against Colombia.

Mac Aliister has since dismissed any concerns about his fitness, claiming in an Instagram post ahead of the game that he is “getting ready for what’s coming,” but there will be a nervous wait between now and the weekend to see if he will be fit to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Curtis Jones

Curtis Jones has been left out of Liverpool’s last two matchday squads after suffering a “minor muscle issue” in training at the end of last month, with no specific timetable for his eventual return.

The injury was not thought to be serious, and there is hope that the 23-year-old will be able to return to action this weekend after Slot previously stated that “he is not going to be out for a long time” prior to the 3-0 victory over Manchester United on September 1.

Jones, who has had almost three weeks to recover from his injury, appears likely to be included in the matchday squad against Nottingham Forest, with further updates from Slot expected in the coming days.

Federico Chiesa

Summer signings Federico Chiesa will be eager to make his Liverpool debut, and Reds fans will be hoping he plays some role against Nottingham Forest this weekend.

The Italian winger has not played a competitive match since Italy’s 2-0 defeat to Switzerland at Euro 2024 on June 29, and he did not participate in any of Juventus’ pre-season friendlies before joining Liverpool.

However, Chiesa has been following a bespoke training plan during the international break to get up to speed, and he has even spent time with the Under-21 squad, as well as participating in first-team sessions with some of the non-internationals. With this in mind, a minor cameo is the best that can be expected on Saturday.
