Leeds United ‘interested’ in transfer swoop for reported Nottingham Forest target
Leeds United have the chance to bolster their ranks over the next couple of weeks
Football Insider reports that Leeds United is “interested” in making a summer transfer move for Bruno Ogbus, defender for SC Freiburg. According to the report, the Whites are eager to bring the young player to England before the transfer window closes, but he would prefer to stay with his current team if at all possible.
Ogbus, 18, has a contract that runs through June 2026, so the Bundesliga team is not under any obligation to sell him at this time unless they receive an irresistible offer. Although centre back is his primary position, he can also play full back when necessary.
He may be viewed by Leeds as an Elland Road asset for the future and as having great future prospects in West Yorkshire. But to try and entice Freiburg to cash in, they would have to spend money.
Prior to moving to Germany in 2022, the Swiss youth international progressed through the Grasshoppers academy and began his career there. He has not yet played for Europa-Park Stadion as a senior.
However, Ogbus has made nine appearances for Freiburg’s B team in the 3.Liga, the third division of German football. However, they were demoted to the Regionalliga Südwest after finishing last season at the bottom of the table.
However, head coach Julian Schuster has elevated him into the first team lineup for the preseason, indicating that he is a part of their plans. The prospect has played in exhibition matches against SpVgg Greuther Fürth, RC Strasbourg, and SCR Altach.
There are other teams that have recently been linked to Leeds. Dennis Bayer, a reporter for Sky Sports Germany, implied on X that Nottingham Forest is likewise a fan. “Update: #Leeds and #Nottingham are also monitoring the development of Bruno Ogbus,” he posted last week. Freiburg wishes to retain the defender regardless, according to @SkySportDE.
Since Liam Cooper’s contract ended at the end of June, the Whites will need to fill the hole in the middle of their defence. However, it is unlikely that Ogbus would be signed to make an instant impact in the starting lineup given his young age.
On the first day of play, Daniel Farke’s team drew 3–3 at home against Portsmouth, and they will be disappointed with the three goals they allowed. To strengthen that area, they could use another signing at the back.
This weekend, Leeds will be eager to defeat West Brom away and record their first league victory. They could have an opportunity to rotate the starting lineup and freshen up their ranks in the Carabao Cup first round matchup against Middlesbrough, a Championship team.
