Even before the transfer window officially opens, rumours about Rangers players are starting to surface everywhere.
In a literal sense.
There are enough names this summer to keep fans of the German team occupied, from South Africa to Eastern Europe and Latin America.
While some of the connections to Rangers will undoubtedly be far from the truth, others will be much closer.
The latter group is undoubtedly represented by the connections to Jose Cordoba, as the Panamanian defender is currently formally deciding on his future amidst strong ties to Rangers.
Cordoba clarifies the Norwich swap.
The permanent signing of Jose Cordoba from Levski Sofia has been announced by Norwich City.
The deal is now finalised, even though the defender headed to Copa America hasn’t been spotted at the team’s training facility with the scarf over his head.
The official Canaries website, which has formally confirmed the transfer, at least claims as much.
The defender has also been discussing the transfer and giving an explanation for his decision to go to Carrow Road.
Rangers was one of several teams associated with Cordoba; dispatches also mentioned USG, Besiktas, Lille, and Norwich City.
However, the Panamanian claims that Norwich’s “family” atmosphere is just what he was searching for.
Cordoba remarked, “I was looking for something like that, and I see Norwich is like a family.”
“The club’s concept and atmosphere spoke to me directly, and I felt compelled to make this decision.”
“We’re delighted to welcome JosĂ© and his family to Norwich City,” continued sporting director Ben Knapper. “He is a player we have been tracking for a long time and we think he fits really well with what we’re looking for.”
“He is an incredibly impressive person, and he expressed a strong desire to come here and join our fantastic club.
His blend of technical skill and athleticism provides him with a strong base on the pitch, and we believe he still has significant growth ahead of him.
“With Johannes leading the way and the support of the rest of our team, we are confident we can help him reach his full potential.
“Everyone is incredibly eager to collaborate with JosĂ©.”
An ideal summer transfer target is lost to Rangers.
Undoubtedly, Jose Cordoba, a star player for Levski, was a target for the Rangers this summer.
Even before the season ended, Nils Koppen and company had already identified the 22-year-old left-sided defender ahead of what looks to be a busy transfer window.
Rangers attempted to sweeten their chase for an Ibrox by hosting Cordoba during their 4-1 victory over Kilmarnock in May.
It appeared to have been successful.
Rangers appeared to be in the lead in the Jose Cordoba chase for the majority of May, with the Gers first pursuing a £2 million, later increasing to £3.2 million, deal.
That is, until it seemed like Norwich City would make things more difficult.
Following that, Rangers informed amiable media that they had withdrawn from the agreement, citing rumours surrounding the transfer that suggested Levski and Cordoba’s representation were not entirely honest.
Levski Sofia reportedly disagreed with the way Rangers intended to organise the deal in Bulgaria.
Declaring that Rangers’ focus has shifted elsewhere and that Jose Cordoba is officially set to move to Carrow Road, despite Norwich City’s alleged willingness to provide more cash up front.
That also applies to Argentina, where Ibrox is supposedly being eyed by another left-sided defender.
