Marco Tilio explains why he left Celtic to join Melbourne City FC on loan

Marco Tilio joined Celtic last summer with high hopes of becoming a future star.
The Hoops made history by paying a record-breaking fee of £1.5 million directly to an Australian club to bring Tilio to Parkhead, but his move quickly went sour.
An injury sustained during pre-season derailed the young Australian winger’s Celtic career, and it never really took off after that.
Tilio returned from his injury in November, but he has only appeared in two games for the Green and White Hoops, totaling 27 minutes.

Brendan Rodgers admitted earlier this season that Tilio was struggling at Celtic, and now the 22-year-old is out on loan at his former club, Melbourne City FC.
Tilio revealed in an interview published last night the real reason he chose Melbourne despite his representatives approaching Sydney FC.
Celtic's Marco Tilio wanted for Australia loan return in January
Tilio, who played for Melbourne City FC, said, “I had an opportunity to come back and to give back to the Club that nurtured me and brought me here as a young player, that gave me every opportunity and helped me grow and I can only thank them for the time I had here before, and I want to hopefully repay them in this time here now.”

To put it bluntly: it does not look good. Tilio is clearly a talented player. He has been capped seven times for Australia and has won three A-League titles, demonstrating his talent. [Transfermarkt]
Injury and homesickness hampered his time at Celtic, and a move back home could be beneficial.
However, his lack of minutes despite returning from injury more than three months ago suggests that Rodgers may not consider the 22-year-old.

And, given the competition he faces for a place in the Celtic first team, which includes Hyunjun Yang, Daizen Maeda, Nicolas Kuhn, and, to some extent, Luis Palma, Tilio will have his work cut out.
Tilio had already made three appearances for his new club, so he hopes to make an impact and return to Celtic as a more confident player next season.

In other news, “He’s irreplaceable.” Gordon Strachan says Celtic should be seriously concerned if the 30-year-old gets injured.
